So far majority of the growth in e-learning space in India has been in the Corporate space, where both Indian and non-Indian companies are using the power of Online Education to train their employees. The question here is, "Is a non-corporate, end user, sitting in his/her home, office, cybercafe in Guhawati, Chennai, Rajkot or wherever he/she is (maybe traveling to London, Paris on business trip).......ready to embrace the concept of online education ?"
Wanted to float this question around to readers of the blog and to other players in the Online Education space to see what they feel.....

Online Education although seems to be very appealing ,but the major issue is that it is good only for the self motivated and disciplined individuals.
To give a constant push to the students as it happens in the live coaching class is difficult.
I agree with that...but doesn't constant push in live coaching comes from regular tests /exams, knowing your score, comparison to others in the class etc.....which can be easily done in online world also.
Or am I missing the boat here ?
Hi,
Somehow, I think we Indians have still the remnants of the Gurukul system inherent in us. You could say we are used top being spoon-fed and scolded alike. Therefore, the image of a monstrous (or loving!) teacher breathing down our neck works a lot better than Messages flashing in our mailbox or on a website reminding us to pull up our socks.
Anyway, that's a personal opinion and for the sake of the future of online education in India, I hope I am proved wrong! Having said that, with ICT developing at a fast pace and the "bandwidth" becoming as ubiquitous as electricity, things could change before long.

It is true that "We Indians" had been and continue to be trained under "watchful eyes" in most part of our education (I heard there are few Engineering colleges in which the lecturers dictate "notes" in the classes) This makes the student "dependent". Realisation among students,a feel of responsibility will radically change the Education system.
What do you guys think about 24x7guru.com ? You may have seen their recent ads in newspaper or heard about them on radio.... online education focused on school students.
So if we think "push" is what is really missing in Online Education, then would it work in the case of 24x7guru.com...where maybe the parents would act as the "watchful eyes".....
One of the great things about online education programs is that you can begin almost anytime. Thus you shouldn't let anyone rush you into starting your program until you feel ready to put the time and effort it will require for you to succeed
